Abstract: This paper opens up with some issues which are fundamentally relevant to how Happiness Economics studies are presently conducted, and 
	then sets out to show that for prominent neoclassical authors W. S. Jevons and F. Y. Edgeworth the object of Economics was to maximise 
	happiness and that, in this, they coincide with current economists working in this research area. We show that the interest in happiness 
	is not new but leans on a significant economic tradition linked to the Utilitarian philosophy that dates to the second half of the 19th 
	century.
Abstract: Este artículo primero aborda temas relevantes para la forma en que actualmente se realizan los estudios de Economía de la Felicidad y 
	más tarde muestra que para W.S. Jevons y F.Y. Edgeworth, autores neoclásicos fundamentales, el objetivo de la Economía era maximizar la 
	felicidad. En esto, coinciden con los economistas actuales que trabajan en esta área de investigación. Se muestra que el interés por la 
	felicidad no es nuevo, sino que se apoya en una importante tradición económica vinculada a la filosofía utilitaria que data de la segunda 
	mitad del siglo XIX.
